What to Expect on the PMP® Exam
Lots of situational questions that briefly present you with a project situation, and then ask you...
  • What should you do next?
  • What is the best thing for you to do now?
  • Who should you meet with?
  • Where can you find specific information?
  • What step was missed?
  • What should you have done differently?
  • What information do you need?
  • Which document or artifact contains what you need?
  • What tools & techniques should you use?
  • Which is the best approach?
Notice that many of these require you to understand not just the processes in isolation, but the order in which these processes should be applied (workflow), where to find key information (documents and artifacts), who should be involved, how, and when (roles, responsibilities, project phases), and how to handle difficult situations (ethics).

This is why PM Ready™ organizes the material differently - from multiple perspectives, and from multiple sources.
What our customers are saying...
"The PM Ready™ Exam Simulator was very helpful in preparing me for the PMP® exam. I was able to pass the test the first time with above target on 4 of the 5 categories. The mock tests helped simulate the actual exam with the questions as difficult as the actual exam questions and with the pressure of being timed. Unlike other sites, the owner is actively engaged. Eric Isom, the owner, was very helpful and responsive to any questions I had about the tool."

- Ronald Spencer, PMP
"Many mocks for PMP exams that are available are good, but they just repeat what is there in the PMBOK® Guide in camouflaged ways. Anyone who’s taken the PMP® exam knows that quite often sources of exam questions are not from the PMBOK® Guide because questions are not bound by PMBOK® Guide boundaries, and questions come from varied real project-life situations, questions that have troubled them, questions that may not have a simple straightforward answer. I chanced to browse sample questions from the PM Ready™ exam simulator of Eric O. Isom and found them refreshingly different from quizzes out there from some very big names. These are not just anchored to the PMBOK® Guide, but explore content authored by eminent industry practitioners. Such questions can only be set by very well read and experienced project managers like Eric. Each question quotes authority from PMBOK besides referring to authentic outside sources which the author feels PMP aspirants should know. Checking out Eric's simulator may be well worth the effort and money. It gives refreshing insights which most others may not give."

Documents
It's much easier to learn the project management processes if you are first familiar with the outputs (documents and other artifacts) that are created and used by these processes.  Preliminary documents: needs analysis, business case, project benefits management plan, and cost-benefit analysis.  The project charter, which is the initial guiding document.  The key documents and artifacts of each knowledge area (scope, schedule, cost, quality, risk, resource, communications, stakeholder, procurement, and integration.  Special emphasis on the workflow: how key documents and artifacts flow from one process to another, across knowledge areas, and how they relate to each other, and how they are changed by these processes.

Initiating
There are only two processes in the Initiating process group, but they are critical to launching a successful project.  They are the Develop Project Charter process and the Identify Stakeholders process.  Learn the value and content of the primary outputs of these processes, the tools and techniques to create them, and how the preliminary, pre-initiating documents and artifacts are used as inputs.

Planning
The Planning section covers the development of the project management plan and all of its component plans for all of the knowledge areas: scope, schedule (including the critical path method), cost, quality, resources, communications, risk, procurement, and stakeholder engagement.  Extended lessons also cover the critical path method (CPM), a brief history of the quality movement and its leaders, as well as change and configuration management.

Executing, Monitoring & Controlling
With your course charted, it is time to set sail.  Moving forward, keeping an eye on things, and making course corrections as needed, all happen in parallel and iteratively during the project.  These lessons cover the inputs, tools, techniques, and output of these various processes.  It also includes several lessons of tools & techniques not covered in the PMBOK® Guide, but which are found in the PMP® exam.  These include several lessons (and a 200+ page book) on earned value management, plus 100 EV practice questions.  There are also several lessons covering both the original and the new sets of quality tools, team management, procurement practices and contracts, the differences between change management and configuration management, how they complement each other, and how to spot a lack of such management.

Closing
There's more to closing than you may think, and you need to be prepared for tricky questions on the PMP® exam about how to properly close a project or phase.  There is also a significant change in the 6th edition of the PMBOK® Guide when it comes to which processes handle which closing activities.

A Better Way to Learn
PM Ready does more than just mirror the PMBOK Guide. It presents the information in ways that make it easier to understand, remember, and apply - not only for real projects, but also for the PMP® Exam.
By Knowledge Area
You can study the material one knowledge area at a time.  Most people and courses take this approach.  Why?  Because that is the order in which it is presented in the PMBOK® Guide.  That is a fine structure for a reference guide, but it is not a good order for learning. For example, the first knowledge area is Integration Management, but starting with Integration Management is backwards. You should first learn about managing scope, schedule, cost, quality, etc., so that when you get to Integration, you know what it is that you are integrating.

Natural Order
On the exam (as well as on actual projects), you are often presented with situations and then asked what to do next. Doesn’t it make sense that you should learn about project management in the natural order in which you apply the various project management processes? Absolutely!

The PMBOK® Guide is a great reference, and it makes sense that it’s organized by knowledge area, but it’s so much easier to learn all of this by studying it in a project’s natural, chronological order.

Results Focused
And speaking of learning things in the right order, it makes much more sense to first understand what a work breakdown structure is before you dive into the Create WBS process.

Similarly, the Perform Qualitative Risk Analysis process is easy to learn once you understand what a qualitative risk analysis is.

The same goes for all of the processes: learn about the key outputs first, and then it will be easier to learn and understand the inputs, tools, and techniques of the various processes.

Workflows
PM Ready also uniquely covers the perspective of the workflow of key documents and artifacts.

Learn about the project deliverables, the processes that create, verify, and validate them, and how they change from “deliverables” to “verified deliverables” to “accepted deliverables” to the “final product, service or result” as they flow from one process to the next.

Learn the differences between work performance data, information, and reports, and which processes convert them from one to another.

But What If...
  • You Don't Have Time:  No problem!  Each lesson is only 20-30 minutes long.  The Exam Simulator includes numerous quizzes that are only 20 minutes long.
  • You Don't Have Internet Access When and Where You Want to Study:  You can download all of the lessons onto your phone, tablet, or laptop, and watch them on the go, when you are traveling and away from an Internet connection.
  • You Find the PMBOK® Guide Confusing:  You're not alone.  The PMBOK® Guide is a reference manual, not a training manual.  The PM Ready™ course presents the information from multiple perspectives not found in the PMBOK® Guide.
  • You Don't Have Time to Find All the Material on the PMP® Exam that Isn't in the PMBOK® Guide:  PM Ready™ includes material from many different sources to complete the set of information you need to know for the PMP® Exam.
  • You Don't Know When You'll Be Ready for the PMP® Exam:  You don't want to take the exam before you're ready, and have to pay extra to take it again.  On the other hand, you don't want to waste time over preparing.  How will you know when you're ready?  When you pass any 2 of the PM Ready™ Exam Simulator exams, then you're ready.  I guarantee it.  You WILL pass the exam.
  • You Are Concerned About Taking a 4-Hour Long Exam:  The PMP® Exam is long, and it takes some practice to become comfortable taking such a long exam.  The PM Ready™ Exam Simulator provides over 1200 practice questions, organized into 6 full-length, timed practice exams.  You can also practice answering these questions with the Exam Simulator's numerous quizzes focused on each of the knowledge areas, process groups, and special areas such as Earned Value.
  • You Don't Know How Long it Will Take to Learn All the Material:  Take all the time you need, knowing that your access will never expire, and you won't have to pay any fees to renew.  Your lifetime access even includes all future updates to the course and exam simulator to keep up with future editions of the PMBOK® Guide.
  • You are Concerned about the Quality:  Have you been disappointed by the poor quality of other resources?  Have foreign accents been difficult to follow?  PM Ready™ is written and delivered by a native speaker of Standard American English.
  • You Want to Save Money by Using Free and Very Low Cost Resources:  There's a reason that nearly half the people who take the PMP® Exam fail it the first time.  Don't be one of them.  It won't save you money when you have to pay to take the exam again.
  • You Change Your Mind:  Life happens.  Plans change.  I understand that.  If you change your mind, just send me an email.  I'll refund your money.
I believe in the power of education.
My mission is to create educational experiences that transform lives.
I do this by providing products and services that are clear, focused, and practical.
